WATCH: Duterte hits de Lima, links senator's driver-lover to drugs

President Rodrigo Duterte has hit Senator Leila de Lima on Wednesday and linked the former justice secretary's "driver-lover" to drugs.

In his speech during the 115th service anniversary of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame, the President said a senator who complains about the government's war against illegal drugs is politiking and posturing when she herself has "a very sordid personal and official life."

"And here is a senator complaining, when one day, I will tell you that her driver—who was her lover—was the one who collected money for her during the campaign," the President said.

"Here is an immoral woman... here is a woman who funded the house of her lover. Those money came readily from drugs. The intercept between Muntinlupa and the driver were far beyond making sure that somebody was involved," Duterte said.

"In fairness," the President said he was not directly saying that de Lima's driver gave her drug money, "but by the looks of it, she has it."

Although Duterte did not specifically mention the senator in his speech, he later told reporters during a presscon at NAIA that he was referring to the human rights crusader.

"You want to know her name? de Lima," he said.

Following the President's August 17 speech, rumors that de Lima has an illicit affair with her driver circulated again on social media.

Photos of a woman, whose facial and physical features bear a striking resemblance to that of the senator, having sex with a man, also resurfaced.

Netizens applauded Duterte's revelations.
