In a sudden twist of fate, the mediaman who called for help and posted the video of the rape victim in Tagum City was arrested by police.
Bridaga News Davao reported that George Panganduyon, who is a publisher and writer of local paper VizMin Surveillance News and block-timer/program anchor on 98.8 Gold FM, has been detained at Tagum City Police Station after he uploaded a video of the woman whom he found lying on the floor naked inside an apartment in Visayan Village, Tagum City, Davao del Norte, around 3 p.m. last Wednesday, August 17.
According to Insp. Anjanette Tirador, Tagum PNP spokesperson, the uploader violated Republic Act No. 9995 also known as the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009.
The mediaman was arrested after he uploaded on Facebook a clip that showed the victim with no clothes and her feet were tied together with a piece of cloth. In an interview, Panganduyon admitted but clarified that he had no other intention except for news purposes.
The mediaman said he was the one who called for help and that the victim could have died if she was not immediately brought to the hospital.
The authorities and family of the victim have reportedly considered pressing charges against him after the video went viral on social media. Netizens from Tagum and other parts of the country, however, opposed the idea and slammed the police for arresting the samaritan instead of the rapist.
