GMA News apologizes for employee's anti-Duterte Facebook post

GMA News Social Media has apologized after one of its employees posted a remark against the camp of presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte.

On Monday, May 2, the network's Facebook page posted a link to an article about the statement of Atty. Salvador Panelo related to the BPI account of Duterte which has a P211 million deposit as alleged by Senator Antonio Trillanes.

Trillanes, who is running for vice president, filed an affidavit stating the source of his documents and how he obtained the information. He and Duterte's lawyer met at the Bank of the Philippine Islands Julia Vargas branch to open Duterte's account.

Panelo had asked BPI to issue a certification disclosing that Duterte's account does not contain "P211 million whether singly, collectively or cummulatively." However, officers of the bank asked for 7 working days to respond as the formal request involves legal issues.

Probably thinking that he already switched to his personal Facebook account, the GMA News Social Media staff member ranted saying he does not understand why Duterte's camp did not open the leading presidential candidate's account in spite of the Davao City mayor's "waiver" (in the form of a Special Power of Attorney or SPA).

The controversial post was immediately deleted but a netizen was able to capture a screenshot which quickly went viral after being posted.

In its statement, GMA News said they will investigate the incident and vowed to uphold their slogan, "Walang Kinikilingan, Walang Pinoprotektahan, Walang Kasinungalingan, Serbisyong Totoo Lamang."
