Duterte facilitates release of cops held captive by NPA [+video]

Presidential front-runner Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has facilitated the release of cops who were held captive by the New People's Army.

Sun.Star SuperBalita Davao reported that the five policemen were tagged as prisoners of war (POWs) after they were abducted on April 16.

The cops were identified as Chief Inspector Leonardo V. Tarungoy, Police Officer 3 (PO3) Rosenie L. Cabuenas, PO3 Rudolf Y. Pacete, PO2 Neil C. Arellano, and PO3 Abdul Azis A. Ali Jr. They were assigned at the Paquibato police station.

In a video released by the NPA’s Regional Operations Command in Southern Mindanao Region on April 24, the day before their release, the police officers appealed to the government to stop military operations and suspend police operations in Paquibato District as it “nearly hurt and killed them,” the report said.

The cops also asked the incoming president for the resumption of the peace negotiations between the Philippine government and the National Democratic Front (NDF).
