HOW TO: Make YouTube videos load faster

If you are one of those who get annoyed because the YouTube videos you watch buffer often, check out this tip on how to load them faster.

We believe this is the best way to shorten the time of loading, based on personal experience.

Follow these steps:

Step 1 - Block IP addresses used by Content Distribution Networks (CDNs).

According to WikiHow, YouTube videos load more slowly as they are served by a CDN, the connection speed of which is different compared to watching video's directly served by YouTube servers. To watch directly from YouTube, you must block the IP address ranges used by CDNs.

On Windows:
  • Open Command Prompt. Right-click the Start button then select Command Prompt (Admin)
  • Copy and paste this command into the window: netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="YouTubeTweak" dir=in action=block remoteip=, enable=yes
  • Hit "Enter" to add the rule.
  • Close Command Prompt.

Step 2 - Increase the local storage capacity of the video player.
  • Go to YouTube.
  • Select a video and play it.
  • Right-click the screen of the video then select Settings.
  • Click the Folder icon and increase the Flash Player local storage to Unlimited.
  • Reload your browser.

YouTube videos should load faster after you do the steps.
