Bus that showed X-rated video may lose franchise

The Bicol-bound R. Volante bus with plate number EVP 120 may lose its franchise if proven guilty of showing X-rated videos during trips.

Officials of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) found a pornographic video titled "Pinay Collection" inside the DVD player of the bus during an inspection at the Araneta Center terminal in Cubao, Quezon City on Monday, March 30, Inquirer.net reported.

MTRCB chairman Toto Villareal was explaining to the driver and passengers that only films rated "General Patronage" (G) or "Parental Guidance" (PG) are allowed to be shown onboard when inspectors turned on the DVD player. They were surprised when a woman taking off her clothes appeared on the TV screen.

The bus driver reportedly blamed his conductor for the video. He was sent off to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) office while his bus got grounded.

Exhibition of pornographic or violent films in public utility vehicles (PUVs) is considered a "franchise violation," the LTFRB said.

Under existing rules, the bus operator will be fined P5,000 for the first offense. The penalty for second-time offenders is P10,000 plus a 30-day impounding of the vehicle concerned. For the third offense, the bus company will be fined P15,000 on top of the franchise cancellation.

LTFRB chair Winston Ginez reportedly said they will conduct an investigation.

The MTRCB and LTFRB should also inspect buses in other parts of the country. There have been reports that provincial airconditioned buses show violent movies during trips.
