Liam Madamba, BSM student 'bullied by teacher', jumps to death in Makati carpark building

Liam Madamba, a BSM student, reportedly jumped to death in a Makati carpark building after he was allegedly bullied by his British teacher.

Here's what has been reported by media so far:

According to reports quoting the Makati police, the 18-year-old graduating student of British School Manila in Taguig City jumped to his death from the 6th floor of the Dela Rosa carpark building in Legazpi Village in Barangay San Antonio, Makati City, last Friday, February 6, at around 6:30 AM.

Witnesses told investigators that a man suddenly leaped from the top floor of the building and landed along Dela Rosa corner Palanca streets.

Members of the rescue team brought Liam to Makati Medical Center for treatment, but he died four hours later due to severe head injuries.

Initial investigation revealed that the student had been missing from their home for days. His parents reportedly heard about what happened after authorities contacted them based on his identification cards.

Liam allegedly took his own life after being reprimanded by his British teacher, who apparently accused him of plagiarizing a paragraph from a website for an essay assignment.

The Madamba family is reportedly planning to seek a hold departure order against the British teacher.

The mother, Trixie Madamba, said in a recent interview that her son was apparently traumatized by the incident, although he did not show signs that he had a problem. She wished the school had immediately told them about the plagiarism case.

In an official statement released on Monday, February 9, BSM said:

We grieve the tragic loss of Liam Madamba, and remember him as a promising young man who was a great student, friend and classmate.

We share in the grief of the Madamba family and respect their privacy and we aim to support them and our whole community through this challenging and difficult time.

We will be holding a forum for our families to share how we can help and support their children over the coming days and weeks and we will be holding a student-led memorial service at school to commemorate Liam's life.

We hope that our strong community will be able to help the Madamba family, our students, our staff and our families cope with this tragedy.

The family of Liam Madamba is inclined to pursue charges against the British teacher, reports said.
