According to a Reuters report published on Yahoo! Celebrity Philippines, the 63-year-old comedy great was found dead by his personal assistant at noontime on Monday, August 11, inside a bedroom.

During a news conference, Marin County assistant chief deputy coroner Keith Boyd said Williams "was suspended from a belt wedged between a closet door and a door frame, in a seated position just off the ground."

"Mr. Williams' personal assistant became concerned at approximately 11:45 a.m. when he failed to respond to knocks on his bedroom door," Boyd reportedly said. "His right shoulder area was touching the door with his body perpendicular to the door and slightly suspended. Mr. Williams at that time was cool to the touch with rigor mortis present in his body."

Authorities also found a pocket knife near the actor's body and superficial cuts on his left wrist. There's no information whether he left a suicide note, the report stated.

Boyd said the official preliminary cause of death was asphyxia (lack of oxygen) due to hanging, but the conclusion of the investigation is yet to be known. Also, the full toxicology report will be released within two to six weeks.

The deputy coroner acknowledged that Robin Williams has been seeking treatment for severe depression as what the actor-comedian's publicist, Mara Buxbaum, revealed last Monday.
