Police initially identified her as Flora Pineda, whose age and address remain unknown as of posting time.

The woman, who was armed with a .45 caliber pistol, reportedly tried to enter the New Executive Building in the Palace compound at around 3:30 p.m. on August 22 but was intercepted by the Presidential Security Group at the gate.

According to reports, Pineda said she wanted to see the president and tell him to step down after seeing poverty-stricken people in the streets of the Philippine capital.

The woman claimed that she obtained the gun from an eatery. She was immediately brought to the Manila Police District for further questioning.

Authorities said Pineda will undergo a medical checkup to determine whether or not she is mentally ill.

Investigators will also check if the gun she brought to Malacañang has proper licensing documents, otherwise she will be charged with illegal possession of firearm.
