Taiwan plane crash kills 47, injures 11 — report [+video]

A Taiwan plane crash occured Wednesday, July 23. CNN reports that 47 people were killed and 11 others were injured after the crash landing.

The TransAsia Airways ATR 72 aircraft reportedly took off the Kaohsiung airport but crash landed in a residential area in one of the Penghu islands.

The cause of the Taiwan plane crash was not immediately known, but Taiwanese transport officials said an investigation is underway.

Some media reports say bad weather may have been a factor for the crash as Taiwan was battered by Typhoon Matmo (Henry) at the time.
