MalacaƱang said Wednesday, June 11, that the President has signed Republic Act 10626 granting Filipino citizenship to the US born basketball player.

This means Blatche can officially play with Gilas Pilipinas, the country's representative in the 2014 FIBA World Cup of Basketball which will be held in late August through early September.

Philippines will join Argentina, Croatia, Greece, Puerto Rico and Senegal in Group B at the international tournament.

Also playing power forward, the 6-foot-11 naturalized player can add height to Gilas and is expected to make significant contributions not just for the team but for Philippine basketball as well.

Andray Blatche averaged 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for Brooklyn in the 2013-2014 NBA season.

In a recent interview, Blatche said he is thankful for the opportunity to be a Filipino.
