The Filipinos failed to bring home the crown as they bowed to the tough and aggressive Palestinian team during the championship match held at the National Football Stadium in Male, Maldives on Friday, May 30.

Both teams played defense for a scoreless first half despite seven goal attempts from the Palestinians and five from the Filipinos. In the second half, Jerry Lucena was introduced into the match, replacing Stephan Schröck who was doing fine defensively earlier.

Palestine scored the lone goal for the entire game via free kick at the 58th minute following a tackle. Azkals goalkeeper Roland Muller failed to stop the ball before it touched the net.

Philippines settled for second place while the champion Palestine team earned a berth to the 2015 AFC Asian Cup which will take place in Australia in January next year. They will be joining Iraq, Jordan, and AFC Cup defending champion Japan in Group D.

Not a bad performance by the Azkals considering that they have reached the finals for the first time. The nationals will surely learn from a great experience as they continue their bid to become among Asia's best.
