Azkals beat Maldives, advance to AFC Challenge Cup finals [+video]

The Philippine football team Azkals defeated host team Maldives 3-2 on Tuesday, May 27, to advance to the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup finals.

ABS-CBN News reports that the Philippines is only a step away from bagging the tournament trophy following a historic victory during their match at the National Football Stadium in Malé.

Over eight thousand spectators witnessed the semi-finals match.

Striker Phil Younghusband scored the Filipinos' first goal, his 36th international goal, in the 19th minute of the game. However, the opponent responded and made one at the 36th minute.

Jerry Lucena added another goal after two minutes, but the Maldivians equalized the game in the 66th minute.

Chris Greatwich reportedly converted a pass from Patrick Reichelt and scored the winning goal in the 104th minute to reach the football tourney's finals for the first time.

The Azkals will meet Palestine in the Finals on Friday, May 30.
