Thomas Dooley has been formally introduced Friday as the new coach of the Philippine Azkals, the country's national men's football team.
The 52-year-old German-American, who replaced German coach Michael Weiss, is a long-time member of the US national football team, serving as team captain and then as assistant to head coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
His team represented the United States in the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cup. He retired in 1999.
On February 7, 2014, Dooley was introduced by Philippine Football Federation president Nonong Araneta at the press conference inside the PFF office.
Reports said final negotiations had started last week, but was completed only this week. Azkals manager Dan Palami reportedly said the contract duration is one year.
As new coach, Thomas Dooley will be mentoring and steering the Azkals as the Philippine team play against Malaysia and Azerbaijan in friendly matches ahead of the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup.
