Skyway accident Manila: Don Mariano bus falls off, crushes van - video

A horrible accident involving a Don Mariano Transit bus occured Monday morning, December 16 at the Skyway, killing at least 18 people.

According to ABS-CBN News, the passenger bus with plate number UVC 916 “fell off the elevated part of Skyway” and “plunged into the west service road of the southbound lane of South Luzon Expressway (SLEx).”

A van with plate number ULX 874 “was crushed after the bus fell on top of it,” the report said. Two persons were reportedly inside the vehicle at the time.

At least 18 people died on the spot while at least 16 others, including the bus driver identified as Carmelo Calascas, were reportedly rushed to various hospitals.

Following the crash, a 30-day preventive suspension for all 78 units of Don Mariano Transit was issued by the Land Transportation Regulatory and Franchising Board (LTFRB). All of the company’s bus drivers were ordered to undergo re-training. Drug and alcohol tests will be conducted on Calascas.

The report said families of the dead victims would receive P75,000 each while those injured will get P15,000 each.

An investigation on the Skyway bus accident in Manila is underway. Police are trying to find out whether or not it was caught on CCTv video.
