Magnitude 5.7 earthquake rocks Mati City, Davao Oriental

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake shook Mati City in Davao Oriental on Wednesday morning, December 4, 2013, according to a PHIVOLCS report.

The epicenter of the quake, which was tectonic in origin, was located at 57 kilometers Southeast of Mati.

The temblor hit the city at 7:58 AM, PHIVOLCS reported. It was also felt in Davao City, Koronadal, Polomolok in South Cotabato, and Alabel in Sarangani province.

No tsunami alert has been raised.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the strong quake occured 1 kilometer East Northeast of Tibanban town in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental at magnitude 5.5 and a depth of 61.37 km.

There were no immediate reports of damages and injuries in connection with the Davao Oriental earthquake, which rocked the province while its commemorating the first anniversary of Typhoon Pablo.
