The Associated Press shared the details about Japan’s new island via Yahoo! News.

According to the AP report, advisories from earthquake experts and the coast guard indicated that the new island in Japan is approximately 200 meters or 660 feet in diameter.

Volcanologist Hiroshi Ito reportedly told media that the new Japan island might disappear due to erosion, but it also “could remain permanently.”

It’s not clear if the government will give the new Japan island a name soon, but a Japanese official said they would welcome an addition to the territory if it “becomes full-fledged.”
