The Azkals played at the Panaad Park and Sports Complex in Bacolod City Tuesday night and retained the Peace Cup championship title by winning against the visiting team, 3-1.

However, it seems they’re being followed by earthquakes. Are the Azkals cursed?

It was noticed that Tuesday’s quake took place eleven hours prior to the game of Philippine Azkals, whose association with earthquakes was justified a couple of times in the past.

On March 11, 2011, the Filipino team were training in Gotemba City, less than 200 kilometers away from Tokyo, when the 8.9 magnitude earthquake and gigantic tsunami caused massive destruction in Fukushima Prefecture in Japan.

Thirteen days later, while the Azkals were watching a video of the Palestine-Bangladesh game in a hotel, a 6.8 magnitude quake struck Myanmar, near its border with Thailand. That incident left at least 60 persons dead, 90 others injured, and 240 buildings collapsed.

On October 15, 2013, a 7.2 magnitude quake violently shook Bohol and Cebu City, and jolted other parts of Visayas and some parts of Mindanao.

According to latest media reports, the death toll in the Philippines earthquake already rose to 99. Several houses, buildings, heritage sites and roads were damaged. Government’s assessment to determine the extent of damage to properties is reportedly underway.
