LTO chief Virginia Torres ousted from Iglesia Ni Cristo for alleged gambling?

LTO chief Virginia Torres has reportedly been ousted from Iglesia ni Cristo after videos showing her playing on a slot machine surfaced.

A source told ABS-CBN News that Torres, who heads the Land Transportation Office, is no longer a member of the religious group, which does not allow members to gamble.

Reports said Torres admitted that she is the woman in the viral videos.

The LTO chief claimed she played on the slot machine at the Madison Arcade in Mandaluyong sometime in June last year, “out of curiosity,” after having dinner with a friend.

Memorandum Circular No. 8 issued by MalacaƱang in 2001 prohibits government officials and employees “from entering, staying and/or playing at gambling casinos.”

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) apparently clears Torres, saying the establishment is not a casino.

The INC has not issued an official statement on the issue.
