Gilas Pilipinas vs Iran championship game result, video replay

Gilas Pilinas, the Philippines national basketball team, battled with the gigantic Iran team at the FIBA Asia 2013 championship finals.

Gilas Pilipinas - FIBA Asia 2013

Philippines played without its best center, naturalized player Marcus Douthit.

The first two quarters were tight and at times marred by bad calls. It seems most of the referees are on the side of Iran, but the show must go on.

A technical problem with the shot clock occured early in the second period, which gave the Philippine team the opportunity to talk it over when Iran started to pull away with successive points in the paint.

Jayson Castro led Gilas to get closer with a foul-troubled Iranian team. Larry Fonacier closed the first half with a 3-point shot, pushing the Philippines behind by just a single point.

Both team started strong in the third quarter. Gilas relied on outside shooting while Iran went inside to widen their lead. Castro and Pingris fought it hard to cut Iran’s lead. Jimmy Alapag fired from downtown, but everytime the Philippines makes a shot, the referees appeared to call a foul in favor of Iran to kill the momentum.

Iran opened the fourth quarter with an 11-point lead as Gilas made a turnover early on. The Philippines has been suffering from foul trouble. Japeth Aguilar had four fouls. Three point shots are not falling for the Philippines.

A referee called an unsportsmanlike foul on Gary David, even if he was not in the right angle to see the violation. It gave Iran two freethrows plus ball possession. Again, bad officiating.

Iran wins the gold.

Scores per quarter: Philippines vs Iran 15-17, 34-35, 53-62, 71-85.
