The Quezon City government declared suspension of classes on July 22, 2013, the day President Benigno Aquino III will deliver his SONA.
Mayor Herbert Bautista announced Thursday that classes in all private and public elementary and secondary schools citywide will be suspended on Monday.
The move is part of safety measures to be observed during the day. It is also seen as an effective way to decongest traffic in roads near Batasang Pambansa Complex in time for the president’s fourth State of the Nation Address.
“The safety and protection of our school children shall remain as the city’s primordial concern,” said Bautista in an official statement.
The local chief executive noted that the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as well as administrators of colleges and universities are given full discretion to declare class suspension on July 22 or not.
