A report on Christian Today says Whitehurst, who teaches 10th grade English at Citrus Valley High School, was charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, whose identity has been withheld.

Redlands police record shows that the teacher had sexual relationship with the student since last year, when he was still 16.

When the teen’s mother learned about their intimate relationship, she immediately informed the Redlands United School District which contacted authorities.

Whitehurst was arrested July 1st, just barely two weeks after she reportedly delivered her child with the student on June 18th. The teacher has been released on a $25,000 bail and was placed on leave since her arrest, the report said. Later, it was learned that the high school mentor resigned from her job.

Assistant school superintendent of human resources Sabine Phillips said district officials have accepted the resignation, but did not specify the reasons for contract termination. She only said Whitehurst is no longer employed with RUSD.

Phillips added that they were saddened with what happened and will cooperate in the probe.

“Nothing is as important to us as the safety of our students and the District takes this arrest very seriously. We are fully cooperating with police in their investigation of this matter,” she reportedly said.

Some news outlets report that Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst or anyone from her camp cannot be reached for comment.
