Photo of crying cop at SONA protest, PO1 Joselito Sevilla, goes viral

Photos of the so-called crying cop at the SONA 2013 protests, PO1 Joselito Sevilla, whose story is heartwarming, have gone viral online.

Sevilla was among the police officers who were put at the front line when protesters tried to enter the vicinity of the Batasan Complex where President Benigno Aquino III delivered his fourth State of the Nation Address on Monday, July 22.

It was Sevilla’s first time to get deployed.

In the absence of a protective head gear, he faced several aggressive members of militant groups, stood on his ground, never hit back and, even in the midst of anger and violence, calmly told a Dutch national who joined the protests: “I am a policeman, I’m just doing my job.”

Sevilla was caught on camera flashing a peace sign, urging militants to submit to a dialogue with his colleagues.

Suddenly, he had an emotional breakdown.

When asked by ABS-CBN News photo journalist Rem Zamora why he cried, Sevilla replied: “Sa gutom at pagod, walang tulog, walang pahinga. Dalawang araw na kami naka-deploy dito. Tapos ganito, nagkakagulo.”

Sevilla was reportedly hit and wounded in the head during a commotion before the rally dispersed.
