Cory Monteith dies; Glee star 'Finn Hudson' dead at 31

Cory Monteith, best known for his role as Finn Hudson on the television series “Glee,” died Saturday in Vancouver, Canada. He was 31.

According to reports, Monteith was found dead inside his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel around noon that day.

Police said Cory checked-in July 6th and was supposed to leave on July 13. When the singer-actor missed his check-out time, hotel staff entered his room and discovered his lifeless body.

It was not known why he was in Vancouver although officials said he visits often. Monteith was born in 1982 in Calgary in the western Canadian province of Alberta.

Authorities told media that the cause of his death “was not immediately apparent,” but foul play was ruled out. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, July 15, it was reported.

In a brief statement, the actor’s camp confirmed that reports about Monteith’s death are accurate. “We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss,” his publicist stated.

Glee and 20th Century Fox Television executives also expressed condolences, saying “Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously.”

Monteith’s co-star and real-life girlfriend Lea Michele, who also played as the actor’s on/off GF on “Glee,” was devastated when news about his death broke out. A representative of the actress released a short statement asking everyone to “respect Lea’s privacy during this devastating time.”

Michele, reports said, helped Monteith overcome addiction issues. The actor reportedly spent a month in rehab and had checked out last April.

It was previously reported that Monteith admitted he had problems with drugs. The actor, who had been open about his substance addiction, voluntarity submitted himself to rehab, entertainment website TMZ reported. It was his second time in treatment.
