Wendy's photo of a frosty-eating worker has gone viral online this week. The employee’s act, which netizens criticized as “gross” and “unsanitary,” sparked an in-house investigation at the popular fast food chain.

“We don't know the exact date the photo was taken, but we believe it was in May,” Wendy’s official spokesperson Bob Bertini said in an email, the NY Daily reports. “The incident was totally inappropriate, and we’re taking it very seriously.”

Various reports said the viral photo instantly became a trending topic on Reddit immediately after it was uploaded on the social news and entertainment website earlier this week.

Bertini reportedly said the employee who consumed frosty straight from the machine no longer works for Wendy’s. It was not clear whether he resigned or got fired from his job.

“Totally inexcusable. This involved one restaurant and the employee is no longer there. We’re reinforcing proper procedures,” the company posted on Twitter in response to media inquiries about the viral Wendy's photo.
