Suspension of Classes, June 24, 2013: Manila Day, San Juan Fiesta, flooding #walangpasok

Classes are suspended (#walangpasok) in the cities of Manila and San Juan, in Obando, Bulacan, and Dampalit Elementary School on Monday, June 24, 2013.

There are no classes and office work in Manila today to pave way for the celebration of Manila Day (Araw ng Maynila), which was declared a special non-working holiday to honor the 1571 founding by Miguel Lopez de Legaspi.

Classes and office work are also suspended in San Juan as the city celebrates the feast of its patron saint, St. John the Baptist. One of the highlights of the festivities is the “Basaan,” a traditional and annual event where residents and tourists splash water on each other.

Meanwhile, suspension of classes was also declared in Obando, Bulacan (all levels) due to high tide and at Dampalit Elementary School reportedly due to massive flooding caused by heavy rains overnight.
