A shooting incident just outside the LAPD Wilshire substation early Tuesday morning left two police officers wounded. For unknown reasons, a gunman opened fire on the car of undercover cops working under the burglary task force.
CBS Los Angeles reports that one detective was slightly wounded in the head, another in the hand. Both were able to return fire at the perpetrator, who reportedly fled the scene on foot after the ambush.
Police described the suspect as a black male, 30 to 35 years old, with medium build and facial hair.
The deputies were brought to the hospital for treatment and were immediately released. They even returned to the crime scene to join their colleagues in the investigation, the report said.
The motive of the shooting is yet to be known. A manhunt to capture the shooter is underway.
The LAPD shooting incident prompted authorities to place the West Bureau under a modified tactical alert.
