Taguig explosion update | Two Serendra blast (May 31, 2013 video)

Updates and videos about the explosion at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig on Friday, May 31, 2013, circulated online after a blast hit a condominium unit at Two Serendra.

An initial ABS-CBN News report tells us that two people were killed in the incident, but the confirmed fatality count was later increased to three.

The victims were on board an Abenson delivery van which was crushed by heavy concrete materials that fell from the 3rd floor of the building. Their identities were still unknown as of this posting.

In an onsite press conference, DILG secretray Mar Roxas, who rushed to the scene with President Benigno Aquino III, said personal details of the fatalities were held by the PNP-NCRPO pending their families’ knowledge.

Police reportedly said the Serendra blast occured in Unit 501 at around 8:10 pm. An investigation to determine its cause is underway.

Residents were reportedly forced to evacuate as thick smoke covered the building. The blast caused panic among Market! Market! shoppers and damage to nearby establishments. Broken glasses, chunks of concrete and other debris were scattered in the vicinity of the blast.

Friday night’s explosion is the second that occured at the Global City so far this year. On January 30, an apparent explosion rocked the Two Parkade building. Report said there was an LPG-like smell in the area after the blast.
