Nicki Minaj late for 'American Idol', blames traffic

Nicki Minaj arrived 13 minutes late on “American Idol.” Wednesday night was supposed to be Season 12’s first live show, but the rapper’s tardiness caused some delay.

Minaj reportedly blamed LA traffic for what happened.

Idol host Ryan Seacrest tried to stall the show and joked: “Which one of you gave Nicki the wrong directions today? Which one of you drained the fuel from her car?”

It wasn’t the first time Minaj showed up late. Yahoo! OMG reports that she also did the same on the first day of “American Idol” auditions. The rap artist allegedly berated her stylist for giving her wardrobe options she didn’t like.

The singer-songwriter was criticized heavily on social networking sites as the live episode was running. Some Twitter users called her “unprofessional” while others said she should be fired from her multi-million job.

Idol contestants though aren’t as unsympathetic. They were, as Yahoo! OMG puts it, “diplomatic” on their opinions toward Minaj despite her unpunctuality.

“I’m not sure what happened, but I feel like we’re all going to be late at some point in our lives, you know, I’m not gonna judge her,” Burnell Taylor reportedly said in an interview with US Weekly.
