Teen killed same day sister sat behind Obama

A teenage girl was killed same day her sister sat behind U.S. President Barack Obama who delivered a speech against gun violence Friday at the Hyde Park Academy in Chicago.

According to the Chicago Tribune, initial investigation revealed 18-year-old Janay McFarlane, sister of Destini Warren, 14, was shot in the head on her way to a store during her visit to friends and family in North Chicago.

The Lake County Coroner’s office reportedly said Janay was pronounced dead at 11:30 in the evening. She is the second gun shooting victim in Chicago since Obama’s speech, the report said.

Her mother Angela Blakely reportedly said Janay asked her questions about death before she died. The teenager frequently mentioned Hadiya Pendleton, whose senseless death caused by a gun earlier spurred Obama’s visit.

Meanwhile, Destini said Janay was excited for her being able to personally see the president at her school. Janay went to the same institution before she got pregnant and dropped out, the report said.
