Newtown Scam: Woman Gets Arrested

A woman from Bronx, New York identified as Nouel Alba was arrested Thursday for allegedly lying to FBI agents during an investigation on a Newtown fundraising scam.

Earlier, Alba was said to have solicited ‘funeral funds’ for a 6-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, Noah Pozner.

Apparently posing as the kid’s aunt, the 37-year-old Alba posted a status message on Facebook asking for donations, with her account number, bank routing number, email address, and PayPal information on it.

She denied the allegations and insisted that she “refunded donation money that had been sent to her account,” reports TODAY News.

On Thursday, a criminal complaint was filed against Alba which states that besides using the social network, she also made phone calls and sent texts falsely claiming as the victim’s relative to solicit money for the burial. It also refutes Alba’s claim that she facilitated refunds.

Alba appeared before the court and was released on a $50,000 bond, the report said. If convicted, she faces a fine of up to $250,000 and a maximum five-year term in jail.
