Surigao earthquake at magnitude 6.5 (November 3, 2012)

A strong quake measured at magnitude 6.5 hit Surigao del Sur before dawn Saturday, November 3, reports the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Tectonic in origin, the earthquake struck about 22 kilometers Northeast of Tandag in the said province at 2:17 AM, the agency said.

The temblor was felt in Tandag at Intensity 5, Surigao City at Intensity 4, as well as in Bislig at Intensity 3.

PHIVOLCS said three aftershocks were reported after the first quake within a two-hour period.

There were no reports of damage to property and life.
