It was a close fight from start to finish although team USA pulled away a little bit in the middle of the final period. The game had 16 lead changes and six deadlocks.

Spain, with Serge Ibaka, brothers Pau and Marc Gasol in its roster, was able to get close by six down three minutes until Lebron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant exploded with spectacular shots.

Finishing 30 points, Durant grabbed nine boards and shot 5-of-13 from the 3-point area, setting a U.S. Olympic single-game record for attempts beyond the arc.

Lebron James finished with 19 points, 7 rebounds and dished out 4 assists; Kobe Bryant contributed 17 points; and Chris Paul added 11 points and three steals while Kevin Love made 9 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.

The Spaniards will bring home the silver medals while the bronze ones were awarded to the Russians who defeated the Argentinian squad, 81-77, earlier.

This is the fourteenth gold medal the US men’s national basketball team won in the Olympic games for seventeen appearances since 1936.

Team USA also became Olympic champions in 1948, 1952, 1956, 1960, 1964, 1968, 1976, 1984, 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2008.
