Lebron James recorded the first triple-double in US Olympic history to power Team USA from a 119-86 victory over Australia into the 2012 London Olympics men’s basketball semi-finals.
James scored 11 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists. His assists tied the U.S. Olympic single-game high.
Kobe Bryant added 20 points, including four straight 3-pointers that widened the US lead in the fourth quarter ensuring a win against Australia in the quarterfinals Wednesday night at the North Greenwich Arena in London.
Team USA will meet Argentina in the semifinals round on August 10, 9 p.m. (4 p.m EDT). The Americans previously defeated the Argentinian squad 126-97 in a prelims play last August 6, as well as in an exhibition game, 86-80, in Barcelona, Spain last July 22.
Friday’s double-header will feature the semis battle between Spain and Russia at 5 pm, followed by Argentina vs. USA four hours later.
The final matches for the bronze and gold medals will take place on Sunday, August 12 at 11 am and 3 pm, respectively, still at the North Greenwich Arena.
