Phillip Phillips Wins American Idol 2012

Twenty-one year old American singer Phillip Phillips was proclaimed as the winner of American Idol Season 11 during the singing competition’s results night at the Nokia Theater on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

Phillip got a record-breaking 132 million online and text votes from AI fans and viewers. He defeated Filipina-Mexican singer Jessica Sanchez.

During the performance night on May 22, 2012, he sang “Stand By Me,” “Movin Out,” and his winning song “Home,” where he got a standing ovation from the judges and live audience for having a great production number that included the use of a marching band.


Aside from the American Idol prizes, Phillip was given a car by Ford, one of the show’s major sponsors.

After winning AI, what’s next for him? Reports said that Phillip will undergo surgery to address his worsening health condition. He has reportedly been urged by doctors to submit into a kidney operation immediately after the show’s grand finale.
