Jessica Sanchez is American Idol 2012 runner-up

Filipina-Mexican singer Jessica Sanchez was proclaimed as the runner-up (2nd placer) of American Idol Season 11 during the singing competition’s results night event at the Nokia Theater on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

She lost to Idol 2012 winner Phillip Phillips

On May 22, 2012, the 16-year-old performer sang “I Have Nothing,” “The Prayer,” and her original song “Change Nothing.”

Jessica’s stint on American Idol made history. She is the first recipient of the Judges’ Save to make the Top 2, and the youngest and first contestant with Filipino descent to become an American Idol runner-up.

On a light note: It was very coincidental that in that Randy Jackson “Phonebook” song performed by the AI Top 12, which was featured on “Idol Moments,” Adam Lambert, David Archuleta and then Jessica Sanchez, all 2nd place winners, appeared on the video.

Meanwhile, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte congratulated Jessica for her runner-up victory. In a statement released on May 24, Valte said:

“As she competed in American Idol, Jessica Sanchez obtained the loyal and enthusiastic support of Filipinos the world over. Throughout her long, arduous journey, people considered Ms. Sanchez a performer imbued with an extraordinary gift of music and heart. This is only the beginning for Ms. Sanchez whose incredible talent has been recognized and appreciated the world over.”
