Italy Earth Quake At Magnitude 5.8 (May 29, 2012)

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck northern Italy on May 29, 2012, damaging buildings and killing at least 10 people.

According to The Christian Science Monitor, Tuesday’s quake was the second major quake to strike that side of the country in 9 days.

The tremor hit at 9:03 local time.

Citing officials and a source from the Italian Red Cross, CSMonitor reported that several people were trapped under the rubble of houses and warehouses in the Emilia-Romagna region.

Police said 10 people were confirmed dead but the death toll was likely to rise, the report said.

The earth quake was reportedly felt across major portions of northern and central Italy.
