Texts Now Cost 20% Cheaper

From P1, the cost of each text message you send from your cellphone starting Wednesday is only 80 cents, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) said.

NTC LogoAccording to reports, NTC deputy commissioner Delilah Deles has confirmed that Smart Communications, Globe Telecom, and Sun Cellular are lowering their SMS rates.

“They furnished us a letter informing us that the new SMS access charge will take effect on their respective networks effective November 30,” Deles reportedly said.

Earlier this year, the NTC had a memorandum circular directing telecom companies to lower the interconnection charge for short messaging service which paved the way for the text cost cut.

The same memo also ordered service providers to ensure that facilities are sufficient to guarantee that 99% of short messages or texts are received by the recipients within 30 seconds from the time texts are sent.
