Malacañang announces suspension of work in government offices in NCR, other areas in Luzon

Due to heavy rains and flooding brought by Typhoon Pedring, Malacañang has suspended government work in the National Capital Region (Metro Manila/NCR) on Tuesday, September 27, 2011.

Suspension of work in government officesDeputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte in her Twitter account said “Per ES Paquito Ochoa,Jr., work in government offices is suspended due to Typhoon Pedring, except those involved in emergency services.”

The Palace's official Twitter account also posted: “Wala pong pasok sa NCR govt offices kung hindi emergency-related work” adding that “the PAGASA recommendation was for the NCR.”

But Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the suspension covers NCR, Regions 1, 2, 3, CAR, Batangas Cavite, Rizal and Laguna.

The Commission on Higher Education (ChEd) has announced that classes in college, undergraduate or graduate level, are also suspended in the said areas Tuesday.

The education department, meanwhile, has also declared the suspension of classes for Wednesday in the NCR in kinder, elementary and high school, both private and public, last night.

As of 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said Typhoon “Pedring” was spotted at 40 kilometers (km) East of Casiguran, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.
