CHEd, DepEd Suspension of Classes on September 27, 2011

When a storm or typhoon hits the National Capital Region (Metro Manila/NCR) and the rest of Luzon, students and their parents have a common question in mind: “May klase ba bukas? (Is there a class tomorrow?).”

Information nowadays are disseminated quickly, thanks to radio, television and social networking sites, those concerned get a prompt answer.

No ClassesIf you're one of those who are asking whether or not there will be classes on September 27, the answer is it depends on the 11 p.m. Pagasa update.

The Department of Education in its Twitter account said automatic suspension guidelines are in place, such as:
  • If signal number 1 is up in your area, classes in the primary level are automatically suspended;
  • If it's signal number 2, classes in the primary, elementary and secondary levels are automatically suspended;
  • For areas under signal number 3, classes in all levels are automatically suspended.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), meanwhile, does not announce suspension of classes. CHEd has policy of giving the college/university administration the prerogative to decide.

CAVITE: No classes in Rosario, Gen. Trias, Tanza and Bacoor for kinder, elementary and HS tomorrow, Sept 27.

Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU):
As of now, there are no announcements regarding suspension of classes in the college, graduate, and professional schools. As such, students should assume that classes will proceed as scheduled until announced otherwise.
University of Santo Tomas (UST):
Due to inclement weather, classes are suspended in all levels at the University of Sto. Tomas tomorrow, Tuesday Sept 27, 2011.
University of the East (UE)
No classes in Elementary and High School tomorrow, Sept. 27, 2011, according to President Ester Garcia.

According to Yahoo! News, the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) has announced that classes in college, undergraduate or graduate level, are suspended in NCR, Regions 1, 2, 3, CAR, Batangas Cavite, Rizal and Laguna on Tuesday.
