Physician Licensure Exam: U.P. grad tops August 2011 exam for aspiring doctors

August 17th was the happiest day for hopefuls who passed the Physician Licensure Examination given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in Manila, Cebu and Davao last August 6-7 and 13-14, more so for the U.P. Manila grad who emerged as the cream-of-the-crop.

The PRC said 1,605 out of 2,131 passed the medicine board exam, which represents a national passing rate of 75.32% - higher than the exam held in February that recorded a 53.25% rating.

Mark Onglao of the University of the Philippines-Manila came in at 1st place with a rating of 88.42%. At 2nd place is Mary Rose Maballo of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (88.17%) while Sharlene Marie Lao of the University of Sto. Tomas as well as Eugene Odoño I also of UP-Manila garnered a rating of 87.92% each to occupy the 3rd spot.

The oathtaking ceremony of the successful examinees, the PRC announced, will be held on September 11, 2011 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

Registration for membership with the Philippine Medical Association, Inc. (PMA), the Commission added, will start on August 22, 2011.
