Philippines wins over Japan 94-78, enters the semis!

Smart Gilas Pilipinas crushed Japan and successfully made it to the semi-finals round in the 2011 Jones Cup on Friday, August 12, 2011 (Day 7).

The Filipino cagers were trailing by as much as eight points in the first three quarters of the game, but Dondon Hontiveros started to pick up his rhythm and made several shots beyond the arc in the final quarter.

The Japanese team were in shock as Smart Gilas Pilipinas launched an assault. They found themselves scrambling to stop the momentum of the Pinoy basketballers.

Other Smart Gilas players tightened their defense and contributed more points as time went on their side. Douthit dominated the offensive rebounding area that gave the Philippine team second chance points. They led by 11 midway to crunch time and finished the game off with a wide margin of 16 points.

At the end of the eliminations, the Philippines held a 5-2 win-loss record.
