Poll: Should Same Sex Marriage Be Allowed in Philippines?

One of the hottest issues these days is the same sex wedding ceremony that took place last Saturday in Baguio City. It was celebrated by members of the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) and supported by lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender groups there.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and Bishop Teodoro Bacani have criticized the rites saying same sex marriage is “kadiri” (gross). But MCC administrative pastor Reverend Ceejay Agbayani, in an interview with Karen Davila on ANC Wednesday fired back and said “it was the bishop who is kadiri sa sinabi niyang yan.” He pointed out that the CBCP has no jurisdiction over MCC.

Agbayani insisted that what transpired over the weekend was a “holy union” which, he said, is different from holy matrimony. “Holy union” does not involve a legal aspect/benefit which means a couple of same gender who intends to ‘unite’ need not secure a marriage contract, Agbayani said. A couple would only need to submit to MCC a barangay certificate for identification purposes to get wed.

Meanwhile, a member of Baguio's city council proposed that an inquiry on MCC's conduct of same sex marital rites be made. The result of the investigation, reports said, will determine whether or not MCC members are declared persona non grata in Baguio.

For educational purposes, we have put up an online poll to know the sentiments of Filipinos on the issue at hand. Kindly spare a little of your time to answer the following question.
