Typhoon Songda (Chedeng) Update as of May 27

Typhoon Songda (international name of TY “Chedeng”) has maintaned its strength as it moves closer to Batanes Area. According to its forecast report, the PAGASA weather bureau indicates that TY Songda will be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibilty (PAR) this weekend.

Forecast Positions/Outlook:
  • Saturday morning: 290 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes
  • Sunday morning: 710 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes or 100 km South of Okinawa, Japan
As of May 27, the eye of Typhoon Songda was estimated at 210 km East of Aparri, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 195 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph. It is forecast to move North Northwest at 19 kph.
