Charice praised for singing PHL national anthem correctly

The National Historical Institute (NHI), the Philippine government's culture and development agency, has reportedly lauded international singing sensation Charice Pempengco for her proper rendition of “Lupang Hinirang” before the Pacquiao vs Mosley main event.

Charice was personally picked by WBO welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao to sing the Philippines' national anthem.

When interviewed by ABS-CBN, NHI Heraldry Section chief Teddy Atienza said, “Tamang tama po ang ginawa niya. Nakuha niya ang talagang bilis at ‘yong tempo.”

Reports said the young singer-actress focused on following the rule so she won’t be criticized like what other Filipino singers suffered after singing the anthem publicly.

Among those criticized for their alleged incorrect rendition of the national anthem were Arnel Pineda, Sarah Geronimo, Martin Nievera and Lani Misalucha.

Section 37 of Republic Act 8491 provides, “the rendition of the national anthem, whether played or sung, should be in accordance with its original musical arrangement as composed by Julian Felipe.”
