Ronald Singson resigns

Ilocos Sur representative Ronald Singson has vacated his congressional seat. Singson's resignation letter was handed over by his father, Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, to House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, Inquirer.net reports.

Ronald SingsonRonald Singson was convicted for drug trafficking in Hong Kong. He was caught with 6.67 grams of cocaine at a Hong Kong airport in July last year.

In his letter, Ronald Singson reportedly said he had come to the “painful decision” to give up his House seat not because he was succumbing to the demands of a “noisy few” in the chamber who were clamoring for his expulsion.

The report said Singson's decision was for the sake of his father who had all the right to protest such provocations from congressmen “because it was his name and honor that was mercilessly dragged into the tempest of my own doing.”
