Kapuso star Jennylyn Mercado earlier this week was charged with perjury before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office for allegedly “lying under oath that resulted in the filing of qualified theft charges against her former personal assistant,” a report on Manila Bulletin said.
It can be remembered that Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 77 presiding judge Vivencio Baclig in mid-January this year acquitted Mercado's ex-PA, Rowena “Mel” Pulmano of the qualified theft charges the actress filed against her.
Baclig acquitted Pulmano after the prosecution failed to prove her guilt “beyond reasonable doubt.”
In her complaint, Pulmano reportedly stressed that in executing the complaint-affidavit in October 2008, Mercado is criminally liable for perjury because she willfully and with “malicious imputation” filed the case against her.
In one of the court hearings, Mercado reportedly admitted that she did not know who signed the checks bearing her alleged forged signatures.
The singer-actress is yet to release a statement on the issue.
