Smart, Globe set up free call stations in areas hit by Typhoon Juan

As most landline phones and power lines were cut off in many parts of Northern Luzon, telecommunication companies are taking initiative to help residents in areas which were greatly devastated by Typhoon Juan, said to be the strongest typhoon in the world so far this year, to stay connected with their loved ones.

According to a DZMM radio report, Globe and Smart have set up free call stations in areas hit by Typhoon Juan. The free call stations are available in specific areas in Ilagan, Isabela, Tuguegarao, Cagayan and Apayao for victims of Typhoon Juan, the report said.

On the other hand, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) ordered public telecommunication entities to make available technical personnel on a 24/7 basis and to provide sufficient standby generators with enough fuel so as not to hamper communication services in typhoon-affected areas.
