The worlds largest social network on Wednesday launched Facebook Places, a new feature that will enable users to immediately update their status to tell people about their location. Whether it's a cozy restaurant, a hiking trail or a live concert event, you can share where you are and the friends you're with in real time direct from your mobile device.

According to Facebook product manager for Places Michael Sharon, you'll need the most recent version of the Facebook application for iPhone to use it. Facebook Places is also accessibe via touch.facebook.com. Just make sure your mobile browser supports HTML 5 and W3 geolocation.
