Irresponsible news reporting?

I guess by now you must have read the Agence France Press report about a Filipina maid under the pseudonym "Christine" who inherited 6 million Singaporean dollars (more than US$4 million) from her late employer Quek Kai Miew, a 66-year old doctor and philanthropist who died in 2009.

The AFP report was re-posted by Yahoo! Philippines where it earned mostly unfavorable remarks and not much on the Filipina maid's classic rags-to-riches story, not much on the quantity of money she inherited (Php180 million if US$1=Php45) and certainly not because of her choice to get a permanent Singaporean residency....but this:
The maid refused to be named in public for fear of possible threats to her life in the impoverished Philippines, where wealthy people have been kidnapped for ransom and some killed by their abductors."
The entire article can be read here. Read the comments and you will be shocked that instead of getting admired and honored, the Pinay maid got criticized.

From my personal point of view, that statement on quote was generally unacceptable. What do you think?
